Research overwhelmingly demonstrates that in classrooms and out-of-school settings, SEL bolster young people’s resiliency and sense of belonging, reduce behavioral issues, and increase school attendance and academic achievement. The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) defines SEL as “the process through which children and adults identify, understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.”
